The Sleep Screen Was Presenting Too Much Information

2025.10.20Technical Log#product-ui#sleep#playback

Reduced information density on the sleep playback screen header and session card, resulting in a clearer, more focused experience at the point of sleep onset.

Screens viewed immediately before sleep require lower information density than those used during active engagement. The sleep playback screen header had accumulated title, status, and supplementary text in a single region, creating ambiguity in visual priority. This density is acceptable in standard usage contexts but increases cognitive load at sleep onset.

This update focused on restructuring the header information area rather than adding new functionality. Display priorities were defined first, then the visual hierarchy was redesigned so that primary information reads first and secondary elements recede. The same principle was applied to the previous sleep session card, reordering its elements for clearer at-a-glance readability.

In parallel, synchronization consistency between audio, video, mount state, and playback indicators was strengthened. Reducing screen complexity is only effective when the underlying playback state it reflects is itself consistent.
