Refining the Sleep Entry Screen and Lock Screen Controls

2025.11.06Technical Log#product-ui#sleep#playback

Consolidated the sleep entry flow into a single continuous interaction and unified the state source for lock screen remote controls to ensure consistency with actual playback.

The sleep entry screen becomes increasingly prone to flow interruption as features are added. When content selection, editing, preview, and alarm configuration feel like separate steps, the experience introduces friction that is misaligned with the context of pre-sleep use. This update focused on integrating these steps into a single continuous interaction, where changes made after initial selection are reflected immediately and results are visible without additional navigation.

The second area of focus was playback state consistency. When a user transitions to the lock screen or control center during playback, the information displayed in the remote control interface must match the actual playback state. The state source referenced by the playback mode and by the remote control interface was unified, ensuring that control actions from any surface produce the same outcome.

Both improvements address moments when users are not actively focused on the screen or have limited capacity for deliberate interaction — immediately before sleep and during eyes-free operation. The goal was to improve the reliability of the playback experience in these specific contexts.
