Consistent Playback Beyond the Screen
Lock screen remote controls and track loading were synchronized with playback state, ensuring consistent audio behavior regardless of which screen is active.
A significant portion of listening time occurs with the screen off — on the lock screen or while another app is in the foreground. In these contexts, a discrepancy was identified between the track information and remote controls displayed on the lock screen and Control Center, and the actual playback state.
Improvements were made in two areas. First, metadata displayed on the lock screen and Control Center, along with incoming remote control commands, were brought into consistent synchronization with the playback engine's current state. Second, the audio session and track loading flow were aligned with the same lifecycle as screen transitions, recommendations, and content exposure.
These inconsistencies do not surface in feature specifications but directly affect the reliability of the playback experience. The objective was to guarantee a consistent playback state regardless of which surface the user is interacting with.
