Integrating Reverb into the Playback Pipeline

2026.04.27Technical Log#sound-engine#playback#product-ui

The reverb and effects chain, previously operating independently, has been integrated directly into the audio playback pipeline to ensure consistent spatial processing at the point of playback.

The reverb engine — handling convolution-based spatial impulse responses — and the effects chain had previously been validated in isolation from the main playback path. This update integrates both components directly into the audio pipeline, ensuring spatial processing is applied consistently at the time of playback.

The primary scope of work was connecting the effects chain and impulse-based reverb to the playback pipeline. Alongside this, audio synchronization during rapid content transitions in the browse interface was improved to eliminate audio gaps and state mismatches. An inconsistency between playback state and lock screen media display was also resolved.

On the product side, the focus was on refining content flow at the point of entry rather than adding features. Album publishing now surfaces associated content under a consistent visibility policy, ensuring a uniform content discovery experience.
