Extending Playback Control Beyond the Screen

2026.05.11Technical Log#product-ui#playback#content

Refined lock screen remote control and reels exit flow to ensure consistent playback state regardless of the user's current screen context.

Users frequently interact with playback from outside the app — via the lock screen or while using other applications. When remote controls fail to reflect the actual playback state, it directly undermines the reliability of the product experience. This update aligns Now Playing and lock screen remote controls with the true playback state at all times.

The reels exit flow was also addressed. When users closed the screen mid-content transition, audio state could be left in an incomplete condition. Entry and exit are now handled with a consistent state contract, eliminating ambiguity at the boundary.

Content visibility logic for moments, insts, recommendations, and discovery was consolidated under a single standard. Reducing per-screen decision logic ensures users encounter a consistent product experience regardless of how they navigate. In the early operating phase, the most common source of friction is not the absence of new features but inconsistency in existing flows.
